National Rankings

As part of our wider review of competition pathways in the UK, the ranking system is currently paused. This ensures that future rankings are aligned with international frameworks, fair for all players, and reflective of the sport’s evolving structure nationally.

Why the Review?

The review ensures that future rankings will:

  • Provide a clear, transparent pathway for new and developing players

  • Align with ITF competition standards and international best practice

  • Support sustainable growth in tournaments and participation

  • Reflect the needs of local communities, volunteers and emerging hubs

  • Create a fair, inclusive structure suitable for a growing UK sport

Current Status

  • No new ranking positions are being issued during the review period.

  • Historical rankings and event results remain archived and can be supplied on request for reference, verification or player records.

  • Guidance for players, organisers and new hubs will be published alongside the updated competition structure.

BTUK will notify players, hubs and organisers when the new system is ready, along with updated guidance and support materials.

UK beach tennis players competing in a match

Beach Tennis UK has historically operated a formal national ranking system to support player development, recognise achievement and provide structure within the UK competitive pathway. Rankings were based on participation, performance and progression across BTUK-delivered and partner-supported events.

Looking Ahead

The revised ranking framework will be introduced once the new competition pathway is complete. It will focus on:

  • Clear entry points for beginners

  • Structured progression routes

  • Inclusion of recreational, regional and national play

  • Consistency with global standards

  • An accessible, community-centred model
